Fungal Infections

The feet can carry some of the most common fungal infections found on the skin. The perfect conditions are created by our footwear, providing the moisture and warmth which is ideal for the spread of fungal infection. If left untreated, this can ultimately spread to the nails. It is necessary to take both nail and skin scrapings to accurately identify and diagnose the particular fungus. Once this has been done, a suitable oral or topical treatment can begin.

Verrucae

Verrucas are one of the most wide spread viral skin infections. The correct treatment is determined by a number of factors: Age, pain, duration, any previous treatments, medical conditions and the location of the verruca. Your Podiatrist will be able to offer a range of treatments and advice. There is no guarantee of total eradication with any treatment.

In Growing Nails

Improper nail cutting techniques, footwear, lifestyle and sport activities can commonly lead to painful ingrowing toe nails. Frequently leading to infection which, in more severe cases can only be rectified by a minor surgical procedure, performed under local anaesthesia. If nail surgery is needed , recovery time is, on average, between 6 -8 weeks.

Corns

Corns are caused by one or a combination of repetitive pressure, friction and dryness. They can occur  anywhere on the foot and even under the nail. Treatment results in the removal of the conical centre, whilst reduction of the surrounding callus helps alleviate pressure. This reduces the corn’s growth.  Your Podiatrist will be able to give advice/treatment on how to best avoid the recurrence of corns in the future.
